Food For People’s Pets

The Food for People's Pets Program operates out of The Michael Cannon Community Pet Food Pantry at The Hermitage shelter. This year-round program collects and distributes pet food and supplies to families in need.

Distribution Schedule

  • Regular Hours: 3rd Thursday every month, 10 AM - 2 PM

Enrollment Requirements

Income Verification (Required since January 18, 2018)
Participants must meet income guidelines following Arizona Department of Economic Security formula:

  • Eligibility: Families at or below 130% of federal poverty level
  • Example: Family of 3 making less than $2,494/month

Accepted Documentation
Participants must bring letters or benefit stubs proving receipt of qualifying assistance programs (specific programs not detailed on the page).

Additional Requirements

  1. Spay/Neuter Proof: Must provide documentation
    • Original paperwork preferred
    • Your Veterinarian can examine your pet and issue a certificate if original unavailable
  2. In-Person Enrollment:
    • Applicant must appear personally
    • Paperwork verification required on-site (letters, benefit stubs, etc.)

Program Limitations

  • Client Cap: 200 families maximum (dependent on food availability)
  • Current Status: Open for enrollment (subject to change)

Donation Information

Our pantry hands out food and supplies to families with all kinds of pets, so we will accept all types of pet food and supplies. We also accept items such pet beds, collars, leashes, cat trees/scratchers, and toys!

  • Location: The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter & Sanctuary
  • Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Method: Drop off during regular business hours
