Planned Giving

Planned giving creates your legacy.

Many people think they don’t have the “means” to create a legacy of their own. By considering a simple planned gift, you can be responsible for making a transformational difference in the lives of homeless, sick, abused and misunderstood cats in our community. Your gift will allow us to continue our mission for years to come.

Types of Planned Giving:

Bequest - Include the Hermitage No Kill Cat Shelter & Sanctuary in your will. Please check with your attorney but here is sample language: “I give, devise, and bequeath to Hermitage No Kill Cat Shelter & Sanctuary, a non-profit corporation located at 5278 E. 21st Street, Tucson, AZ 85711, EIN 86-0213263, ______ percent of my estate (or the sum of $ ___; or ___ percent of the residue of my estate) as an unrestricted gift.”
Cash - Cash gifts of any amount are always appreciated.
Donor Advised Funds (DAF) - Contribute to a Donor Advised Fund (i.e., through the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona) and you can get a tax deduction and a say in where your funds will be applied.
Life Insurance - Name the charity outright OR split beneficiaries. Charitable rider – some will do a 2% match Sign a policy over to charity – get a tax deduction on premiums already paid Get a life insurance policy specific for charity
Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) - The IRS sets an amount that you must take out of your IRA annually. This depends on your age – generally 70.5 years old. It is a strategy to lower your tax liability. You can donate up to $105,000. One option is to give via a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
Stocks - If you gift low basis (original purchase price) stocks, the charity doesn’t pay taxes and it’s a nice deductible to “even out” your tax liability. You can gift any amount in stocks – that amount gifted is NOT taxed and can be a deduction.

Another way to Give!

We are pleased to announce that we now have a fund in partnership with the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) as a philanthropic resource to help us accomplish our mission. CFSA has the infrastructure and expertise to accept current or estate gifts on our behalf.

You may make a gift at any time designated for The Hermitage and you will receive a letter acknowledging your gift for tax purposes.

While not endorsing any one estate planning attorney, financial advisor or other resource, we are aware of an online platform called freewill.com that may be helpful if you're looking to create a simple will or other resources.

Steps to Making Planned Gifts:

  • 1 Establish -- Contact your attorney and your financial advisor and tell them you’d like to arrange for a planned gift to The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter. Your attorney or financial advisor can then assist you in determining what type of gift best suits your personal and financial circumstances.
  • 2 Discuss -- Talk to your family and friends about your plans and personal wishes in addressing family needs, as well as your legacy gifts.
  • 3 Notify -- Notify The Hermitage of your plans, so we can appreciate your generosity. Please also let us know if you would NOT like to be recognized publically.
