A Letter from the Executive Director The Hermitage is Arizona's first and oldest no-kill, no-cage shelter. We have been saving the lives of our feline friends since 1965. I find that both amazing and inspiring. The Hermitage's no-kill policy is so important, especially after one reads articles like the piece in the magazine No Kill Sheltering, that five million dogs and cats are killed annually in U.S. shelters. This doesn't have to be the case. With education and spay/neuter programs, we can work towards ending these sad and troubling statistics. We can do so much more as advocates for our animal population, but we have to work together as a community to accomplish these goals. The Hermitage has been around for as long as it has because of community support. To all our supporters I can not say thank you enough. Your kind hearts are what have kept us going. To our new readers I say, welcome. If you can imagine 400 cats, not living in cages and living in harmony, you can imagine The Hermitage. And if you love animals, come visit us at the shelter. It is truly an amazing place. |
